Description: The first exhibit that you meet in this building is a round showcase of gemstones, which are mainly of Norwegian origin.
In the Geology Hall on the ground floor you will find a presentation of the internal and external geological processes that are at work in the Earth. Here you can also learn about the working of a volcano and see how rocks and mountains are formed. Part of the exhibition is preserved in its original form from 1920. Norway as an oil producing nation is the subject of a separate section.
Part of this hall presents the geological history of Norway, illustrated with rocks from all parts of the country. Here you can also see a reconstruction of the landscape during the ice age. In the rear of this hall is an exhibition of minerals that fluoresce under ultraviolet light.
The Mineral Hall on the first floor contains a systematic presentation of a large number of minerals from all over the world. There are in addition some exhibitions with special themes such as quartz, feldspar, gemstones and amber.
A number of Norvegian meteorites are on exhibition here, as a sample from the Moon!
