Description:
The Natural History museum was founded on 20th of November, 1969, as the first natural history museum in Korea. Its purpose was to promote formal and social education through the conservation researches of plants, animals, rocks and mineral specimens from Korea and other countries in the world.

The current collections are about total nearly 57,000 items of 5,000 varieties.

Most collections were donated by people, collected in the field, exchanged with other museums: among them, a basaltic peridotite nodule, natural bismuth, fossilized algae of the Proterozoic Era, and an avian ichnolite of Korea's Haman strata are the highlights of the permanent geological exhibit.

Especially, over 3,000 species of the biological collections, which include many rare and endangered species, are considered the most valuable in Korea. They are exhibited systematically according to the taxon characteristics. The exhibit has not only been a major interest for people in biological studies, but has also been a main source for the general public to understand nature and to envision environmental conservation needs.
