Description:
The Pusan National University Museum opened in 1964. The museum has studied the history and the cultures of Korea in wide scope from the prehistoric period to the modern era through accumulation of various data. In particular, the museum has concentrated on the study of the history and the culture of Gaya of the prehistoric period and the ancient ages in the areas of Busan and Gyeonsangnam-do (where the university is located). The museum has collected a vast quantity of artifacts from 40 or more excavation surveys and the artifact distribution surveys carried out three or more times a year, and the quality as well as the quantity of the museum’s artifacts attract significant attention nationally and from abroad.

The representative activities for studying cultures of the prehistoric period and the ancient age include the excavation surveys in various areas such as Suga-ri, Yean-ri and the beacon mound remains in Gimhae, the group of old burial mounds at Bockcheon-dong in Busan, the village remains at Geomdan-ri, Ulsan, Hadae remains, and Gorye-ri in Miryang.

Further, the museum has been making every effort to preserve the assets and conduct archeological studies of the area, which is a recognized treasure trove of the Gaya remains.
