Description:
The Sunchon National University Museum, the first museum in eastern Jeollanam-do, opened on September 1, 1987. Since its opening, the museum has contributed to the research of the region's history, culture, and public education through ongoing excavation surveys of the area, annual lectures on cultural topics, and operation of the permanent exhibition halls.

The family of late Seung-Hyo Choi (aka Gangwun) donated some six thousand cultural artifacts in October 1999, which greatly enhanced the museum's collection. The museum also devotes its endeavors to assisting professionals as well as the public in understanding the local culture by producing various publications such as the catalogs.

The museum will continue to play its role as the central museum of eastern Jeollanam-do, and lead the progress in the research and the culture of the local communities.
