Description:
Having been attacked by the overseas countries throughout its history, Korea has yielded many of great commanders who fought against the attacks from the seas. Particularly, Admiral Yi Sun-shin, the great commander and hero who defended the country during the Japanese Invasion of the late 16th century, is the spiritual mainstay of the R.O.K Navy.

Since its establishment on Jan. 17, 1946, ROK Naval Academy had collected documentation and information about Admiral Yi Sun-Shin, and temporarily operated an exhibition hall in the library to exhibit the collected documents. Then, the academy opened the ROK Naval Academy Museum on Jan. 17, 1976 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the academy. However, the museum was, at the time, a simple expansion of the document exhibition hall or Admiral Yi Sun-Shin.
