Description:
The Charles University Botanic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in the country. It was originally founded in 1775 in Prague in the Smichov quarter, but since the river Vltava frequently overflowed its banks and damaged the garden in this low-lying area, the garden was moved, in 1898, to Na Slupi Street, near Charles Square.
