Description: The University of Warsaw Museum goes back to the roots when University of Warsaw was established, which is 1809 – 1817. In 1809 the process to purchase masterpieces from the ancient collection belonging to King Stanislaw August has started, and in 1817 the Faculty of Science and Fine Art along with it’s museum had been established. For few years the museum was situated in the Kazimierzowski Palace, which is the current facility of Institute of History and which until this day is called (post)museum building. It’s most beautiful interior, known as The Classic Column Room will regain it’s former representative function starting from 2012. The key pride decorations of The Classic Column Room are plaster casts of most famous ancient and renaissance masterpiece sculptures. The museum of the first University of Warsaw (1808/1816 – 1831) can be considered as first public museum in Poland and an institution which triggered the idea of establishment of National Museum.
