Description: The Borova Hora Arboretum, having an acreage of 47,8 hectares, is situated in the northern part of the town of Zvolen. It represents a research and development workplace of the TU and is a base for educational and research work, especially in forest and park dendrology. A considerable part of the Arboretum's area is covered by a tree species collection, about 1.5 ha by a collection of roses and the production area (nurseries, hotbeds) represents 1.2 ha. As for its mission statement, it has an extraordinary position. Its main concern is in indigenous tree species and their intraspecific and geographic variability. Rare forms of domestic tree species are searched for in the natural forests of Slovakia to be vegetatively propagated and recorded in archives as a rare gene pool of domestic dendroflora. There are also some introduced tree species serving only for the purpose of practical training of students. Material planted of the territory of the Arboretum is rare and original. Precise records and photodocumentation of this material are kept and regularly evaluated. The Arboretum has almost 1,100 tree species and forms numbering more than 30,000 individuals.
