Description:
Georgian Emigration Museum of TSU was founded on October 10, 1994 in connection with opening the World Congress of All Georgians.

The Museum was opened on the basis of the private fund of Professor Guram Sharadze, Doctor of Philology, and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia. The fund guards the unique emigrant books, periodic editions, private archives of the emigrants, photo, audio and video archives, audio tapes of the Radio “Tavisupleba” shows, memorial belongings of well-known emigrants, paintings, famous Georgian printing house of Victor Nozadze in Paris , etc.

Georgian Emigration Museum works in four basic directions:

2. Educational

3. Scientific

4. Exposition

Museum Funds

1. Book reserves – 1374 books. 840 – Georgian, 570 – foreign (French, German, English, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Hebrew, etc.)

2. Periodic editions – 70 types of magazines and newspapers in Georgian, Russian, German, French, English, Turkish, Spanish, Dutch languages, up to 10000 copies.

3.Fund of Archive:

a. More than 80 private archives – writings, epistolary heritage, private and official documents (still under processing). Private archives of Noe Zhordania, Noe Ramishvili, Akaki Chkhenkeli, Konstantine Kandelaki, Evgeni Gegechkori, Victor Nozadze, Grigol Robakidze, Mikhako Tsereteli, Ekvtime Takaishvili, Zurab Avalishvili, Shalva Maghlakelidze, Giorgi Machabeli, Giorgi Gvazava, Rapiel Ivanitski-Ingilo, Kalistrate Salia and others also are guarded in the fund. Most part (90%) of these archives is handwritten (autograph), and the rest 10% are printed.

b. Photo archive – 400 museum folders, including personal (famous emigrants), group, thematic photos, also the photos of less known emigrant authors. The museum keeps the unique photo-material (originals, copies, negative versions);

c. Audio-theca – 325 round disks and over 40 tapes. The Audio-theca also keeps the tapes of the shows broadcasted by Radio “Tavisupleba” during 40 years. The tapes feature the voices (interviews, speeches, etc.) of Grigol Robakidze, Victor Nozadze, Noe Zhordania and other well-known emigrants.

d. Video-theca – 200 video tapes (shot by G. Sharadze together with well-known emigrants).

e. Memorials – kept the private belongings of Noe Zhordania, Kita Chkhenkeli and Victor Nozadze.

4. Paintings – landscapes and portraits of Grigol Robakidze, Irakli (Kaki) Tsereteli and Givi Kobakhidze.

5. Famous Georgian printing house of Victor Nozadze.

The museum maintains the permanent exposition in the stands and show-cases made by artist Koba Guruli.

Scientific conferences and meetings with well-known Georgian emigrants are usually held in Georgian Emigration Museum.

The leading specialists of the Museum consult the students while working on mid-term and diploma thesis, also the scientific workers and authors. These individuals have access to the unique emigrant materials kept in the Museum.
