Description:
The Museum was founded on October 17, 1877 in Buenos Aires, thereby giving rise to the Antrhopological and Archaeological Museum of Buenos Aires which would house the collections donated by the \\\"Perito\\\" (Expert) Francisco Pascasio Moreno, who was appointed Director.

When in 1880 Buenos Aires was declared federal district, the city of La Plata was founded on November 19, 1882 to be the capital of the Province Buenos Aires. The Museum was moved to the new city in July 1884, and in that year the government started the construction of the building. The works enden in 1889, but the Museum was officially opened in November 19, 1888.

In 1906, with the foundation of the Universidad de La Plata, the Museum became part of it and at the same time incorporated a new activity: the teaching of Natural Sciences at the university level.
