Description:
NTU Department of Geosciences owns a plenty of precious collections of fossils, minerals, and rocks in excess of 3,300 specimens. The sources of these specimens include researching specimens, education specimens, personal contribution, and sampling of professors and students of department of Geosciences. The Exhibition Hall of Geological Collections was rebuild in September of 2003, and cooperated with Digital Archives Project of NTU to encode and digitize the previous specimens.

The special exhibition displays 12 mineral specimens. Expect that amethyst is produced in Korea, others are all produced in Taiwan. The Famatinite and Hokutolite are renowned in the world. The diversity and rarity of these specimens reveal the complexity of geological condition in Taiwan, and record the research works of professors and students of department of geosciences.

The most special collection may go to Professor Grabau's manuscript and personal letters. He was invited to China in 1920 and accepted a professorship of paleontology at the National University of Beijing. His impact on the following generation of Chinese geologist was profound and permanent.

Special exhibits in the Exhibition Hall of Geological Collections are held periodically. By looking into geological environment in Taiwan, we try to explain geological knowledge to the public with vivid illustrations and comprehensible descriptions and to draw people to the place where they dwell in.
