The seeds deposit is used constantly for research, it has the function of conserving the seeds and of re-introducing specimens to their natural environment. It is normal for the seeds deposit to exchange seeds with other deposits and botanical gardens.
The 'António Luís Belo Correia' Seeds Deposit is part of the ENSCONET, an european network of seeds deposits.

Description:
The seeds deposit is part of the Botanical Garden, which is part of the National Museum of Natural History of the University of Lisbon.

It includes since XIX Century some historical collections of seeds such as the one from F. Welwitsch with 100 specimens collected in Angola (1853-1860), and the one of F. Augusto and L. Sobrinho (1956-1968), with 1091 specimens from different parts of the globe.

The 'António Luís Belo Correia' seeds deposit is open since 2001 and has all the equipment required for the maintenance of all the seeds and has nowadays viable seeds of 1178 specimens of plants, mainly from portuguese flora (circa 70%) but as well from plants hosted in the Botanical Garden.
