The Zoological Museum is merged with the National Center for Biodiversity Naturalis in Leiden (the Netherlands).

Description:
Curates more than 13 million animal specimens with special strengths in the South East Asian and South American / Caribbean fauna, as well as in the marine fauna. The museum's mission is to maintain and develop its collections and to manage these as a facility for scientific research and public education.

Includes 31,500 coelenterates; 35,000 worms; 6,000,000 molluscs; 28,500 crustaceans; 8,000,000 insects; 10,000 alcohol specimens; 76,000 prepared specimens; 40,000 fish; 48,000 birds; 1,550 mounted birds; 1,100 bird skeletons; 5,000 bird's eggs; 350 bird specimens in alcohol; 10,000 mammal skins; 3,000 mounted mammals; 15,000 mammal skeletons; 2,000 mammals in alcohol; 15,000 reptiles; 1,000 historical exhibits; 10,000 glass negatives; 5,000 other historical items; 1,200 anatomical preparations; 150 items of demonstration material; 150 photograph albums; 20,000 reference books; 15,000+ drawings, manuscripts, portraits and archive material.
