Description:
The collection of exhibits and archives related to the history of Maritime Academy in Gdynia aging back from 1920. The collection includes: ships equipment, ship models, school cruises memorabilia from 1930’s, documents, report cards, sailing booklets, hand written diaries, yearbooks, school binders, letters, photographs, films, recordings, press material and publications from before 1945. The collection expands as a result of donations made by graduates and friends of our Academy. The Maritime Academy in Gdynia Museum is the continuation of the State Maritime University and was established in 1935. The memorabilia and documents collected here relate to the history of the University that was located in Tczew city during the years from 1920 until 1930. After 1945 the collection from before the second world war was kept in the University building located at Jana Pawła II str. (previously called Aleja Zjednoczenia). In 1978 the collection was inventoried and expanded thanks to help of University graduates. Then all items were moved to the current location and makes up a permanent exhibition together with the archive – document section which is called The Tradition Room. The temporary exhibition called the State Maritime University 1920 – 1930, which is the cradle of Polish Merchant Navy, includes the collections from the Tradition Room and is displayed from 2008 until the end of 2015 at the Vistula River Museum in Tczew, which is a subsidiary of the Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.http://www.cmm.pl/muzeum-wisly/wystawy-czasowe-7/szkola-morska-w-tczewie-1920-1930. Since 1990 an yearly student contest called My Maritime Experience is organized in the Tradition Room, and since 2010 Maritime Conferences are being held there as well.
