Description: Korea University Museum (Henceforth, KUM) was established in 1934. It was the first one of its kind in the history of Korea. In 1936, KUM began to collect various folklore items, aided by the donation from Mrs. An Ham-pyeong. Since then, many people have donated numerous historical materials to KUM. Many important relics, collected from 34 excavations, including the Ungcheon Shell Mound (excavated in 1959) allow KUM house to about 100,000 historical items in various areas such as history, archeology, and folk art. It finally took on the aspect of a museum once the three-story-building was completed in 1962.
In 1998, KUM opened an exhibition room for the aiding materials of the university's history. In the following year, KUM expanded the exhibition room and its subsequent separation into 'Bo-Sung College Hall' and 'Korea University Hall.' KUM's systematic development has contributed to maintaining many of its records and documents. In 2000, by the remodeling of the 3rd floor of the museum into Modern Arts Hall, KUM and the establishment of the audiovisual education center (3rd floor), KUM were able to obtain necessary space for social education. KUM has fulfilled the educational function systematically by having Museum Culture Lecture (2000) and Museum Experience Learning Session for Children (2001). Through those educational courses, KUM has provided a future's course for social education.
