Description:
This museum was set up in 1968 within the campus of UM with the objective to: build up a collection of art objects from and within the region for research and display. It also includes collections from the Malay Ethnographic Museum, which pertains to Malay culture and civilization. Among the collections are Indian sculptures, chinese and Southeast Asian ceramics, and Islamic coins. The Malay heritage section features woodcarvings, costumes and textiles, weaponry, pottery, basketry, musical instruments, brasswares, handicrafts and items made of bamboo and also indigenious masks. Students and researchers are welcomed to survey and study, the collections found in this museum. The museum is located at the quadrangle between Petaling Jaya gate and Jalan Ilmu.
