Additional information: The Youth-laboratory is a science centre for children from 10 - 14. The children can do scientific exploration of the five senses. A truly enjoyable experience for all.
The museum organises events for children throughout all major school holidays. Description: The Utrecht University Museum manages the academic heritage of Utrecht University. Beside the conservation and restoration of the 500.000 objects the museum also organises permanent and temporary exhibitions. The dental collection of the museum is the largest in Europe.
The permanent exhibition shows the university education in the 18th century including a wide range of medical artifacts.
As far as University History and Student Life are concerned, the Museum houses: 550 boxes of professorial archives; 600 professorial portraits; 3,000 drawings and prints; 1,200 medals and seals; 20,000 items associated with student life; 1,500 art collection; 70,000 photographs; 1,500 other artworks and historical objects; 20 coats of arms and busts; 30 historical photograph albums.
As far as Scientific Instruments: 7,000 natural science instruments; 2,000 crystal models.
As far as Zoology: 58,000 zoological specimens or preparations; 90 models (Blaska); 2,000 drawings.
As far as Geology & Earth Sciences: 20 drawers of minerals and crystals; 1250 drawers and 60 boxes of petrology material; 700 drawers of structural geology; 300 drawers of large vertebrate material; 100 square metres of vertebrate comparison material; 250 drawers and 400 square metres of stratigraphic-palaeontological material; 2 cupboards of sedimentary material; 80 soil profiles; 100 drawers of economic geological material; 500 drawers of invertebrate palaeontological material; 10 square metres Netherlands''s palaeontological material; 175 square metres of various fossil material; 50 display pictures; 100 plaster models of microfauna; 100 meteorites; 60 drawers of samples from Simplontunnel ; 70 historical instruments; 3 square metres Van Riemsdijk collection; 80 drawers of specimens left behind from glaciers; 5,000 historic petrology specimens; 45,000 systematic and stratigraphic fossil specimens.
As far as Archaeology: 1,800 item archaeology study collections; 3,000 prints and drawings.
