Description:
The Geology Museum at the University of Otago has a substantial collection of Tertiary vertebrates, plus a few marine tetrapods of other ages. Most of the specimens are latest Eocene-Oligocene and early Miocene cetaceans and penguins. Much of the material comprises Fordyce’s active research collection. Types of almost all NZ fossil Cetacea are available in the Department of Geology. The Otago Geology Musuem has arguably the largest and best rock and mineral collection in the South Island. Many of the specimens are on display in the museum, more are stored for teaching and research purposes.
